Though Larry was challenged with quadriplegia for the past 14 years, he always had a way of brightening one's day. It did not matter if the
Larry said, "I have had to learn how to accomplish tasks in very different and often creative ways than I did before." With this in mind, Larry continuously strived to make a difference for others challenged with paralysis. Larry was a member of the TRW - Daniel Freeman Hospital Partnership Program, Board of Directors for the Westside Center for Independent Living (WCIL) and the TRW Committee on Disability Awareness. He was also a founding member as well as a Board Member for the Robbie Vierra-Lambert Spinal Cord Organization for Regaining Excellence (RVL S.C.O.R.E.).
To honor Larry's legacy, the Larry Barnes, RVL S.C.O.R.E. Technological Memorial Fund will pay tribute to his spirit and determination by supplying disability friendly computers to Spinal Cord Injured and other disabled in our communities by collaborating with corporations, private businesses, and hospitals. A tutorial mentor program is in development.
The First Annual Larry Barnes, RVL S.C.O.R.E. Technological Memorial Awards were presented on January 26, 1998, at the RVL S.C.O.R.E. 5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament.
We are also currently in the process of obtaining donated 486 and higher computers while setting them up for disabled access. If you or your company would like to continue Larry's legacy through donating computer systems, computer peripherals and/or your services to help us rebuild these computers, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org
